Introducing the Family Math Core Competencies

Family math is already happening in every home through cooking, games, budgeting, storytelling, cultural traditions, and everyday problem-solving. The Family Math Core Competencies provide a shared framework for building on this existing knowledge to support children’s mathematical thinking and learning.

In this interactive webinar on February 4th at 1pm, participants will be introduced to the Family Math Core Competencies—Reflect, Connect, Collaborate, and Lead—a set of guiding practices designed for educators, family-facing professionals, and organizational leaders who want to strengthen their knowledge of family math. Together, we will explore what it looks like to shift from seeing families as supporters of math to recognizing them as co-constructors of mathematical learning.

Participants will come away with a clear understanding of the Family Math Core Competencies, their purpose, and ways to use them to guide professional learning, program design, teacher preparation, and organizational decision-making.
