Week Long Math Summer Camps

Family Math of Ithaca will offer three Math camps for elementary school age children this summer in the Ithaca area.  The camps will be held in area elementary schools: Belle Sherman June 24-28 , Fall Creek July 8-12,  and  Enfield Elementary July 8 -12.

All sessions will be from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  The camps are designed by Prof.  Dani Novak [Mathematics] of Ithaca College. Dani has been leading family math days and creating math summer camps for children for many years. His camps are designed to stimulate interest in both students who love math and for those who do not.

Most of the teachers in the camp will be Ithaca College music students, and the students will help campers explore the connection between Math and Music. Students will also explore “Math and  Art”,  “Beginning Computer Programming”  and “Logical Thinking through Puzzles and Games”.  The fee for the camp will be $150 and scholarships are available.  The experience is appropriate for students who will be entering 2nd grade thru 6th grade in fall 2013.  In order to register to the program please go to this site and fill out the preliminary registration form http://familymath.org/?page_id=2.

Each camp will have space for children who are older, who wish to learn more about these topics. Preferably this is geared to our past campers who want to return, but if your child enjoys math, puzzles and music, they can be considered for this junior counselor position.

The focus of the camps is to have fun with mathematics. If your student is either intimidated by math or absolutely loves it, this camp is for them.  Please contact Gary Fine at gmf5@cornell.edu if you have questions about the camps. Once you fill out the registration form on the Family Math web page, we will send you more details about the camps.
